Trish did much more than attend my son’s birth.
She had agreed to come fill the birth tub when labor started. Labor began at about 10:30 PM on a Friday night. This was the day before Trish’s son’s second birthday party. And we didn’t call her right away – we had a few hours of “Is this really labor? Who do we call first? Should we just wait till morning?” I think it was about 12:30 AM when we called Trish.
We left a message and she called right back. She got directions and was on her way.
In our fluster, my husband and I somehow we got the hose hooked up to the wrong place, so it was not supplying sufficiently hot water.
Trish spent hours heating water on the stove and hauling it to the bedroom without complaint. (She has since told me that she learned from that incident that she should always follow her intuition, as she thought it needed to be changed but didn’t say anything at the time.) I only remember knowing that Trish was working hard to make sure that whatever needed to be done was being done. She brushed my hair, made sure I was hydrated, and offered massage. She was attentive to me and supportive of our birth team. I heard she offered moral support to our official doula – early Saturday morning was the first time she and I met, and I usually take my time getting to know new people. While Trish had originally committed to staying until the tub was full, she stayed until Elliott was born, and I think she helped with cleanup! By the time she left, [her son] Orion’s birthday party was an hour or two away!
She went far above and beyond the call of duty for my son’s birth.
She works well with others and offers a tireless nurturing quality that is hard to come by. I highly recommend Trish as a doula. I have also gotten many massages from Trish and I recommend her as a massage therapist as well.
